The Asbestos Response Taskforce has released the latest demolition schedule showing that 75% of all Mr. Fluffy houses in Canberra have been demolished through the Government’s Asbestos Eradication Program.
As at 7 July of this year, 764 Mr. Fluffy houses have been demolished. A further 164 demolitions are scheduled up until the end of 2017.
“The ACT Government remains committed to eradicating Fluffy asbestos from the Canberra community, and this latest demolition schedule shows that we are ahead of schedule in delivering at our commitment to address the Mr. Fluffy issue in our city once and for all,” said Minister for Planning and Land Management Mick Gentleman.
“All properties with the Mr. Fluffy loose-fill asbestos in the suburbs of Charnwood, Duffy, Evatt, Fraser, Hawker, Kaleen, Lyneham, Latham, and Reid have now been demolished.
“About 90% of affected houses in Chapman, Chifley, Curtin, Flynn, Garran, Giralang, Griffith, Holder, Hughes, Macgregor, Melba, Pearce, Spence, Waramanga and Weston have also been demolished.
“The progress being made with demolitions is a direct result of the innovative, safe and well-practiced demolition and remediation processes set firmly in place, as well as the great work of the Asbestos Response Taskforce,” said Minister Gentleman.
