Construction company charged over painter’s death

A construction company has been charged following the death of a painter who fell approximately 3.5 metres through a void on the first level of a hotel complex under construction at Merricks North in February 2017.

The company is facing three charges of violating the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to control the risk of a fall from height.

Following a WorkSafe Victoria investigation, the company was charged in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday with failing to provide a safe system of work, failing to maintain a workplace in safe condition and failing to ensure that a workplace is safe.
