DMIRS recognised for safety in the workplace

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has recently been recognised for best practice in safety management with the Gold Safety Way Achiever Award in the 2017 IFAP/CGU Safe Way Awards.

The Award honors organisations that continuously improve their workplace safety performance programs in order to achieve best practice.

“I congratulate the COSH team for all their hard work in achieving this award. This and other health and safety successes provide a good platform for DMIRS to work towards achieving excellence in safety,” said DMIRS Director General David Smith.

The former Department of Mines and Petroleum’s Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) team applied for the Award this year. The application process included a written submission from which their safety management system was assessed against several criteria and an interview process.
