Melbourne health service faces charges over patient death

A Melbourne health service has been charged by WorkSafe Victoria over alleged health and safety failures following the death of a patient at its Broadmeadows aged persons mental health unit in September 2013.

The health service has been charged with three contraventions of section 23(1) of the OHS Act for allegedly failing to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, that the 75-year-old male patient was not exposed to risks to his health or safety arising from the conduct of its undertaking.

The charges were filed at the Broadmeadows Magistrates Court.
