Pilot killed in helicopter crash in SA’s Far North

A pilot has died in a helicopter crash in South Australia’s far north.

Police and emergency services were called to a mine site approximately 60 kilometers east of Woomera shortly before 11am on Wednesday following reports of a helicopter crash.

The pilot and sole occupant, a 45-year-old Queensland man, died at the scene.

In a statement, South Australia transmission company ElectraNet, said the pilot was a contractor working on a project in the upper north of the state.

“Our thoughts are with the pilot’s family and colleagues at this time,” a statement said.

“ElectraNet is cooperating with all relevant authorities investigating this incident.”

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority and SafeWork SA are investigating the incident.
