A Queensland Rail worker has died after being hit by a passenger train north of Brisbane on Monday night.
The man was working on tracks at Petrie station when he was struck by a passenger train at 10:26pm.
He was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with critical injuries but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Queensland Rail chief executive officer Nick Easy said the man was working on tracks when the incident happened.
“I want to express my heartfelt sympathies to the man’s family and friends and Queensland Rail employees who I know will also be devastated by this incident” he said.
“Safety is and will always be our number one priority and we are currently working with investigators, including the Rail Regulator, to examine the cause of this incident”.
