Safe Work Australia released the Australian Workers’ Compensation Statistics 2014-15 report which provides a detailed workers’ compensation statistics, including preliminary claim data for 2014-15 and an analysis of claims over time.
The statistics serve as an indicator of Australia’s work health and safety performance over the 15-year period between 2000-01 and 2014-15.
The report noted that the rate of serious claims dropped by 33 percent between 2000-01 and 2013-14. It was also noted that median compensation paid for a serious claim rose by 94 percent between 2000-01 and 2013-14.
In 2014-15, labourers, community and personal service workers, and machinery operators and drivers had the highest number of serious claims per million hours. During the same period, the three industries with the highest number of serious claims per million hours worked were Agriculture, forestry and fishing, construction, and manufacturing.
The report is produced annually from claims data provided by Australian workers’ compensation authorities.
