Latest figures from Safe Work Australia show 120 Australian workers have been killed at work in 2017. Transport, postal & warehousing has once again recorded the highest number of workplace deaths, with 47 fatalities so far this year.
Agriculture, forestry & fishing industry recorded 27 fatalities, Construction 23 fatalities while Arts & recreation services reported 5 deaths.
The figures show the manufacturing industry has so far recorded 4 fatalities. Other industries that have recorded fatalities include Electricity, gas, water & waste services 3, Public administration & safety 3, mining 2 and Accommodation & food services 2 fatalities.
Others include Rental, hiring & real estate services 1, Healthcare & social assistance 1, Retail trade 1 and Other services 1 fatality.
Safe Work Australia says these figures are based on initial media reports and are a preliminary estimate of the number of people killed while working. Once the appropriate authority has investigated the fatality, more accurate information becomes available from which the details of the incident are updated.
