The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has released an updated draft code of practice which aims to promote and maintain the mental health of FIFO workers in Western Australia.
The ‘Mentally healthy workplaces for fly-in fly-out workers in the resources and construction sectors’ code is now open for public comment following an initial round of consultation earlier this year.
The updated draft includes a summary report describing feedback from the public and how their issues were addressed.
“The latest round of public consultation is another opportunity to ensure your voice is heard on the critical issue of mental health in the FIFO workforce,” said Mines and Petroleum and Commerce and Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston.
“Our aim is to reduce exposure to psychosocial hazards and risk factors for all workers, which should be appropriately managed by employers.
“The McGowan Government is committed to driving change in mental health, and improving workplace health and safety for all Western Australians.”
