Worker dies in NZ building site

A worker has been killed after he was hit by a vehicle on a building site in Auckland on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the site on Commodore Drive around 8.15 in the morning.

The construction site is for a new retirement village in Lynfield has been temporarily shut down as investigation starts.

Chief Executive Gordon MacLeod of Ryman Healthcare expressed his sympathy for the family of the deceased construction worker.

“This is the worst possible news for any family. Our thoughts are with them,” he said.

“We will be working with WorkSafe to find out what went wrong and we will do everything we can to make sure it never happens again.”

WorkSafe said an investigation was underway.

“WorkSafe has been notified of a fatality at a Lynfield workplace this morning,” NZ Herald quoted a WorkSafe spokesman as saying.

“WorkSafe is currently making inquiries into the incident and is unable to comment further.”
